A coupling is a mechanical part used to connect two shafts (the driving shaft and the driven shaft) in different mechanisms so that they rotate together to transmit torque. The main function of a coupling is to connect two shafts or a shaft and a rotating part, so that they rotate together during the transmission of motion and power, and do not disengage under normal circumstances. Sometimes, a coupling is also used as a safety device to prevent the connected parts from being subjected to excessive loads and play an overload protection role.

Drum gear couplings can allow larger angular displacements, improve the contact conditions of the teeth, improve the ability to transmit torque, and extend the service life. Gear couplings have small radial dimensions and large load-bearing capacity. They are often used in shaft transmission under low-speed and heavy-load conditions. They are also suitable for industries such as petroleum, chemical industry, and general machinery. High-precision and dynamically balanced gear couplings can be used for high-speed transmissions.
